1
The Lyric Hammersmith Theatre is making waves in the West End with the UK premiere of FANGIRLS, an award-winning Australian musical. This groundbreaking production features a professional L-Acoustics sound system, delivering exceptional audio quality for this major debut.

Written by Yve Blake, FANGIRLS delves into the passionate world of teenage fandom through the eyes of a 14-year-old girl infatuated with a boy band’s lead singer. The show blends humor with powerful feminist themes, necessitating an extraordinary sound system to recreate the electrifying atmosphere of a pop concert in an intimate setting.

Sound designer Tony Gayle collaborated with The Lyric Hammersmith and L-Acoustics Certified Partner Autograph Sound to specify the L-Acoustics system, marking a notable return for both companies in the West End. “We needed a professional sound system with exceptional power to capture the essence of this pop-driven show,” says Daniel Ronayne, Head of Sound at The Lyric.

Autograph Sound invested in Kara II and Kiva II speakers for FANGIRLS, deploying two main Left/Right hangs of six Kara II enclosures each, complemented by a Centre cluster of Kiva II for vocal clarity. Additional hangs and subwoofers ensure comprehensive coverage throughout the auditorium.

Gayle notes, “The L-Acoustics line arrays provided the tonal quality and delivery we sought, offering both crystal-clear sound and an immersive concert experience.”

Toby Chester from L-Acoustics adds, “We’re thrilled to see our K Series delivering stadium-level sound in this intimate venue. This collaboration showcases how our technology enhances modern musical theatre.”

Ronayne concludes, “The clarity and power of the L-Acoustics system have opened new possibilities for sound design at the Lyric, enabling us to craft truly immersive experiences for our audiences.”

This installation marks a significant advancement in bringing concert-grade audio to intimate theatre spaces, highlighting the versatility of L-Acoustics technology in performing arts.
