Ayrton Rivale light up Red Rocks Amphitheatre for three nights of Brandi Carlile in Concert

Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, one of the most iconic outdoor venues in the world, recently became the canvas for a stunning lighting transformation — thanks to 88 Ayrton Rivale fixtures and the creative vision of lighting designer André Petrus.

For three nights in September, Grammy and Emmy-winning artist Brandi Carlile performed to sold-out audiences. But beyond the powerful music, what made the show visually unique was Petrus’s bold lighting concept: using the venue’s natural rocky backdrop as a set piece, with no traditional screens to distract.

“We got compliments about how they’d never seen the rocks lit the way we did,” recalls Petrus.

The 88 Rivale units served as the primary moving lights. Positioned across multiple layers of trussing and ground rows, they provided depth, texture, and rich color saturation — perfectly suited for both live audiences and PBS television cameras recording the event.

Petrus, who typically works in touring and television, noted this was his first time using Rivale — and definitely not the last.

“For their size, they are a great solution for medium to large-scale shows. They lit the scenery very well, and I was super pleased.”

The project showcases how technical innovation and creative risk can reimagine even the most legendary performance spaces.
